Arceneaux, MacGill run to podium finishes on final evening of NCAA meet

CMU women set new program-bests

PUEBLO, Colo.— Senior sprinter Sierra Arceneaux and redshirt sophomore distance runner Kira MacGill both turned in first team all-America and team-scoring performances as the Colorado Mesa University women's outdoor track and field team wrapped up the season on a high note on Saturday evening here at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl, site of the NCAA Division II Championships.

Arceneaux earned her fifth overall career all-America honor finishing sixth in the 200 meters before MacGill claimed a seventh place finish in the 5,000 meters to earn her third all-America honor of the academic year and her career in the very next women's event.

Arceneaux, a redshirt senior from Aurora, Colorado, finished the 200 in a wind-aided 23.33 seconds, the same time that she had run to qualify for the championships and wrapped up her brilliant career as the CMU record holder in five different outdoor events.

Meanwhile, MacGill run in the scoring pack throughout the entire race, finishing in 16:49.52 as one of four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference runners in the top seven and eight in the top 12.  The Littleton, Colorado native had finished tenth in the 5,000 at the national indoor championships in March and had earned her first career all-America honor in cross country in December.

With those two efforts, the Maverick women scored five team points and finished tied for 36th in the final team standings, their highest point total and highest program finish after finishing in a tie for 43rd with four points a year ago.

This year also marked the first time that two Maverick women scored at the same NCAA Outdoor Championship.

CMU's men finished in a tie for 41st with four team points, thanks to a fifth place finish and school-record setting performance from Dawson Heide in the decathlon.

The Mavs also had a representative in women's triple jump on Saturday evening in the form of Kiana Jackson, who placed 17th with a mark of 11.98 meters (39 feet, 3 ¾ inches).  She fouled on her first attempt and recorded a mark of 11.65 meters (38-2.75) on her second effort.  The Fountain, Colorado native and redshirt senior qualified for four NCAA Championships during her strong 11-time All-RMAC career.
