#5 Mavericks Complete the Sweep of Mountain Lions

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 5 Colorado Mesa baseball team completed the sweep of the UCCS Mountain Lions on Sunday (Apr. 23) afternoon as they came away with a 13-6 win at The Diamond at the Bus Bergman Sports Complex.

The Mavericks scored five runs in the first and five runs in the fourth innings to put the game out of reach.

Robert Sharrar, Conrad Villafuerte and Harrison Rodgers all had three hits in the game.

Sharrar continued his hot streak with a 3-for-5 performance with three runs driven in that includes a double and a triple while Rodgers was 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Villafuerte was 3-for-3 with a run scored, two walks, and three runs driven in that included a double. The senior knotted the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first as he blasted a no-doubt two-run homer to left field which was his eighth of the season.

Blake Rohm got his first start of the season and went his scheduled two innings and did not factor into the decision.

Sophomore Kyle Miller earned the win behind him as he pitched the next three innings. He allowed four runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out four in 58 total pitches.

Bridger Clontz, Joey Mazzetti, and Jared Ure managed to pitch the remaining four innings scoreless. They combined for four hits and six strikeouts with no walks.

The Mavericks move their record to 33-9 on the season and 22-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They will continue to lead the conference regardless of the outcome of MSU Denver and Colorado Christian on Sunday.

Colorado Mesa will make their last regular season road trip as they head to the Land of Enchantment for a four-game set with the New Mexico Highlands beginning on Friday at 2:00pm.
