Rodgers Delivers Walk-Off Win over Rangers

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 21 Colorado Mesa baseball team made it back-to-back wins coming via the walk-off after a 7-6 win in 11 innings over the Regis Rangers on Sunday (Apr. 2) afternoon at The Diamond at the Bus Bergman Sports Complex.

The two teams were tied at 6-6 heading to the 11th inning when Derek Shaver led off with a single to left field in his first at-bat of the game. Jared Grenz came in to pinch run for him and made it all the over to third base after a failed pickoff attempt.

Jonathan Gonzalez was at the plate and walked after several changes defensively for Regis. The Rangers brought in a new pitcher and employed the five-man infield with only two outfielders situated in left center and right center. The walk brought Harrison Rodgers to the plate.

With a 1-1 count, Rodgers drilled the next pitch he saw deep to left field which was more than enough to get Grenz in from third base for the second straight walk-off win for the Mavericks.

Rodgers finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two runs driven in.

Conrad Villafuerte was 1-for-3 with two runs driven in and two walks.

Anthony Durbano picked up the win in relief to move to 3-0. He pitched two and two-thirds scoreless allowing just a walk while striking out two.

With the game tied Durbano entered with runners on first and second with one out in the ninth inning. He induced an infield pop-up and ended the inning with a strikeout.

Colorado Mesa is now 23-8 on the season and 14-2 in the conference. They remain a full three games up on MSU Denver in the standings while holding the tiebreaker against the Roadrunners.

The Mavericks will have a short week this week with the upcoming Easter Weekend. They will travel to Pueblo for a four-game series with the ThunderWolves beginning on Thursday evening.
