Mavs pick up 15 USTFCCCA All-Region honors

3-event recipient Burnett, heptathlon top-performer Heide lead CMU honorees

NEW ORLEANS— Eleven Colorado Mesa University track and field athletes earned a combined 15 All-South Central Region honors, bestowed by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2022-23 indoor season on Tuesday afternoon.

The top five individuals in each event from each region, based on season-long performance lists, earned the honor.  Additionally, members of the top three relay teams earned the honors.  The regions used for this award— Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West— match those used during the cross country season.

The South Central Region is made up of teams from the Lone Star and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences.

The Maverick women had six athletes earn a combined ten honors.  Redshirt freshman Jordan Burnett led the group, garnering her first three honors in the 200 and 400 meters, events she won at last month's RMAC Championships, as well as the 4x400-meter relay.  Relay teammates McKenna Molder, who also picked up an individual 400-meter honor, Sophie Lindauer and Mica Jenrette, also recognized in the pentathlon, were also recognized.

Molder now has six career honors while Lindauer has three.  Jenrette has been recognized eight times in her career.

Josie Coffey (High Jump) and Kira MacGill (5,000m) also received honors for the CMU women.  Coffey has been tabbed in all five of her combined indoor and outdoor seasons while MacGill picked up her first track award after receiving all-region recognition in each of the past two cross country seasons.

Meanwhile, the Maverick men had five all-region honorees, spanning four different events.  The group was led by heptathlete Dawson Heide, recognized as the region's top performer in that discipline.  Triple jumpers Gunner Rigsby and Spencer Purnell, long jumper Justin Thompson and 60-meter hurdler Zayden Davis also received the plaudit.

Heide has now been honored in the event for the second straight year while Thompson has now been recognized in five consecutive seasons while garnering a program-record six total all-region plaudits.

Rigsby now has three career honors while Purnell has two.  Davis was recognized for the first time.
