Mavericks Complete Sweep of Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa baseball swept a doubleheader and the series from the Colorado Christian Cougars on Saturday (Mar. 25) afternoon at All Star Park in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The Mavericks outscored the Cougars in the series by an 83-7 margin.
 
In game one of the doubleheader, the Mavericks scored the second most runs in the program's history in a 38-1 win over the Cougars. Colorado Mesa rattled off those 38 runs on 27 hits including 17 that went for extra bases. Of the 19 players that got a plate appearance, 13 of them got a hit in the game while four more were walked or were hit by a pitch.
 
Braden Winget enjoyed a special day at the plate as he made a start at first base. Winget went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and eight runs driven in. He hit two home runs in the game with a grand slam in the second inning and a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
 
Christos Stefanos went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five runs driven in with two doubles and a home run while Harrison Rodgers had two doubles and a home run. Derek Shaver also finished with two doubles.
 
Nine Mavericks finished with multiple hits.
 
Jared Ure made his second start of the year and pitched outstanding. He allowed just five hits while striking out five in five shutout innings. He moved his record to 1-1 on the year.
 
Brenden Morris pitched the final two innings and allowed one run on four hits while striking out three.
 
In the final game of the series, Rodgers and Julian Boyd each had three hits to lead Colorado Mesa to the 13-4 win in the series finale with Colorado Christian.
 
Rodgers finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double and a triple while Boyd was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, three runs driven in and two doubles.
 
Freshman Kolby Felix finished with one of his best performances in his young career as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored and four runs driven in with a double. He hit his first collegiate home run in the top of the fourth inning as he sent a 1-0 pitch over the fence in right field.
 
Kannon Handy earned the win on the mound as he allowed one run on five hits, walked two and struck out five in four innings of work to move his record to 4-0 on the year.
 
Cole Seward, Bridger Clontz and Anthony Durbano each pitched an inning of relief in the win.
