VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.— Five different Colorado Mesa University track and field athletes earned a combined six Second Team USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) All-America honors as the Mavericks wrapped up the indoor season on Saturday at the NCAA Division II Championships here at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Mica Jenrette won two of those placing 11
th in the pentathlon before teaming with
Sierra Arceneaux,
Sophie Lindauer and
Jordan Burnett for a tenth place finish in the women's 4x400-meter relay for the other. Jenrette, a fifth-year redshirt junior from Los Lunas, New Mexico, now has six total all-America certificates to her credit, the most of any Maverick track and field athlete— male or female— in program history.
On Saturday, she matched and then passed
men's squad member Justin Thompson, who earned his fifth on Friday night with a sixth place finish in the long jump.
Pole vault legend and 2018 NCAA indoor champion Nolan Ellis also won five in his career while Arceneaux now has four. Lindauer earned her first career honor while Burnett, a redshirt freshman, picked up her second in as many days after placing tenth in the 400 meters with a school-record time on Friday.
Elsewhere,
Dawson Heide finished tenth in the heptathlon to earn his second consecutive overall all-America honors in that event while
Kiana Jackson was unable to record a legal mark in the triple jump.
Spencer Purnell was also unable to start the men's triple jump, due to injury.
The USTFCCCA recognizes the top eight finishers in each event with first team all-America honors. The organization also awards the ninth through 12
th placers in each event and the ninth and tenth place relay team members with second team plaudits.
Jenrette, who has placed sixth in each of the last two national championship pentathlons, scored 3,731 points on Saturday, placing fifth in both the shot put and 800 meters.
