Mavericks Snap Five Game Winning Streak

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team snapped their five-game win streak on Wednesday (Feb. 22) after a 62-49 setback to the visiting Westminster Griffins in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference showdown in Brownson Arena.

The Mavericks trailed 22-11 after the first period of action and wound up never leading in the game. They were outscored in three of the four quarters of play with the second quarter being the only one they prevailed in 16-12 thanks in large part to the second group that came in and brought energy.

Megan Pohs led that second group with eight points. She was joined on the floor by Lauryn Deede, Jordan Woodford, Leah Redding and Josee Steadman.

Olivia Reed led the Mavericks offensively with 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Westminster's Ashley Greenwood led all scorers with 18 points on 8-for-17 shooting from the field.

The Mavericks will play their final regular season game tomorrow evening in Gunnison as they play the Western Colorado Mountaineers at 5:30pm. Pending results of the other games in the conference will determine where the Mavericks ply or if they play at all in the conference tournament scheduled to begin next Tuesday on campus sites.
