LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 4 Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team competed in the Desert Duals tournament hosted by Wartburg College at the Flamingo Hilton Hotel on Sunday (Dec. 17) afternoon. Check the mini recaps below for how the Mavericks did in their six duals on the day.
#4 Colorado Mesa 42, Pacific 4
Colorado Mesa opened the day with a matchup against in-region opponent Pacific University from Oregon. The Mavericks wasted little time and won nine of the ten bouts including three forfeits in a 42-4 win over the Boxers.
Colorado Mesa won five straight contested bouts by technical fall before winning the last two matches of the dual by pin.
Samantha Vasquez won by pin over Sofia Aragon at 1:45 in her 170 pound bout before
Isabeau Shalack earned a pin at 191 pounds at the 1:05 mark of the match.

Isabella Morales wrestled at 101 pounds and got the dual off on the right note with a pin of Olivia Atkins at 1:01 before
Adriana Gomez and
Kiely Tabaldo followed with back-to-back technical fall victories at 109 and 116 pounds respectively.
Hania Halverson and
Keyla Ajoleza followed those with pins at 123 and 130 pounds.

In the final tuneup of the morning, the Mavericks were able to secure a 41-7 win over the Grand Canyon club program after winning nine of the ten bouts which included three wins by forfeit.

#8 Simon Fraser 24, #4 Colorado Mesa 18
In the most important match of the day, the Colorado Mesa Mavericks fell to the Simon Fraser Red Leafs 24-18 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual. The Mavericks only managed to secure four wins in the dual.
Isabella Morales opened the dual with a pin of Gina Bolognese at 1:34 for a quick start on the scoreboard while the Red Leafs got a portion of that back in the 109 pound bout.
Kiely Tabaldo secured a solid win at 116 pounds over former all-American Maddie Mackenzie 9-4 to push the lead out early in the dual.
Simon Fraser would score three straight victories to take the lead and never look back.
Erica Schroeder and Kim Carlin would each pick up wins for the Mavericks. Schroeder had a decision victory over Clara Scaglioni while Carlin secured a pin over Mikaela Trolland at 170 pounds.
