LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 4 Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team competed in the Desert Duals tournament hosted by Wartburg College at the Flamingo Hilton Hotel on Sunday (Dec. 17) afternoon. Check the mini recaps below for how the Mavericks did in their six duals on the day.
 
#4 Colorado Mesa 42, Pacific 4
Colorado Mesa opened the day with a matchup against in-region opponent Pacific University from Oregon. The Mavericks wasted little time and won nine of the ten bouts including three forfeits in a 42-4 win over the Boxers.
 
Colorado Mesa won five straight contested bouts by technical fall before winning the last two matches of the dual by pin.
 
Samantha Vasquez won by pin over Sofia Aragon at 1:45 in her 170 pound bout before Isabeau Shalack earned a pin at 191 pounds at the 1:05 mark of the match.

#4 Colorado Mesa 39, Ottawa (AZ) 9
The Mavericks took on the likes of Ottawa Arizona in their next dual and came away with a lopsided 39-9 victory where they won eight of the ten bouts that included three forfeit victories.
 
No. 8 Isabella Morales wrestled at 101 pounds and got the dual off on the right note with a pin of Olivia Atkins at 1:01 before Adriana Gomez and Kiely Tabaldo followed with back-to-back technical fall victories at 109 and 116 pounds respectively.
 
Hania Halverson and Keyla Ajoleza followed those with pins at 123 and 130 pounds.

#4 Colorado Mesa 41, Grand Canyon 7
In the final tuneup of the morning, the Mavericks were able to secure a 41-7 win over the Grand Canyon club program after winning nine of the ten bouts which included three wins by forfeit.
 
Hania Halverson was the lone winner by pin in the dual while Adriana Gomez, Alyssa Jackson, Apple Middleton and Kim Carlin all won by technical fall.

#8 Simon Fraser 24, #4 Colorado Mesa 18
In the most important match of the day, the Colorado Mesa Mavericks fell to the Simon Fraser Red Leafs 24-18 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual. The Mavericks only managed to secure four wins in the dual.
 
Isabella Morales opened the dual with a pin of Gina Bolognese at 1:34 for a quick start on the scoreboard while the Red Leafs got a portion of that back in the 109 pound bout.
 
Kiely Tabaldo secured a solid win at 116 pounds over former all-American Maddie Mackenzie 9-4 to push the lead out early in the dual.
 
Simon Fraser would score three straight victories to take the lead and never look back.
 
Erica Schroeder and Kim Carlin would each pick up wins for the Mavericks. Schroeder had a decision victory over Clara Scaglioni while Carlin secured a pin over Mikaela Trolland at 170 pounds.

In their first matchup with the Hawkeyes, Colorado Mesa did not fare so hot as they would only win one of the contested matches but received three forfeits in a 25-20 loss.
 
Isabeau Shalack earned the biggest win of the dual as she won a 6-4 decision over No. 7 ranked 191-pounder Alivia White.

The Mavericks closed the day with a dual against host and No. 15 (tie) Wartburg which featured several closely contested bouts. In the end, Colorado Mesa was on the winning end of those in a 34-11 win over the Knights as they won eight of the ten of the bouts.
 
Hania Halverson (123), Holly Beaudoin (136) and Isabeau Shalack (191) all earned pins in the win Shalack's being the quickest at 28 seconds into the bout.
 
Adriana Gomez (109) and Celina Cooke (155) each earned technical fall wins.
