GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 4 Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team opened their 2023-24 season with a pair of victories including their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win ever on Friday (Nov. 3) evening in Brownson Arena. The Mavericks won 19 of the 20 matches the competed during the evening.
The Mavericks and Chadron State closed out the night with the first-ever Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual, just hours ahead of a matchup between Simon Fraser and Texas Woman's. The conference is one of the first NCAA Division II conferences to sponsor the sport of women's wrestling.
Colorado Mesa won nine of the ten bouts in the dual en route to a 41-3 win over the Eagles.
No. 4 ranked
Jennesis Martinez began the dual with a technical fall win over Mana Chanthasone at 101 pounds.
After the Eagles earned the lone win of the dual at 109 pounds, Colorado Mesa won three of the next four bouts by pin and the other by technical fall.
Kiely Tabaldo,
Hania Halverson, and
Holly Beaudoin all earned wins by pin while
Hailey Chapman earned a technical fall win at 130 pounds.
Top-ranked
Dalia Garibay earned a technical fall win at 155 pounds and was sandwiched by a pair of forfeit victories.
No. 4 ranked
Jayleen Sekona and No. 8 ranked at 170 pounds Kamila Montenegro capped the night with what was deemed the bout of the night at 191 pounds. Sekona secured three takedowns to prevail with a 6-0 win on the evening.
Earlier in the night, the Mavericks won all ten bouts in a 43-2 win over No. 4 ranked NJCAA school Snow College.

Valerie Glenn (136) all earned their first collegiate wins of their careers. Gomez and Tabaldo earned pins while Glenn earned a decision victory in their first dual.

Caylee Collins (170) earned technical fall victories while
Erica Schroeder picked up a decision victory at 143 pounds.
Shandin Largo closed out the dual with her first-ever dual win as she earned a 10-0 technical fall win over Audrey Gribble.
The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow morning at the Maverick Open in Brownson Arena with wrestling scheduled to begin at 9am.
