CMU Track & Field teams picked fourth in RMAC polls

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University indoor track and field teams were both picked fourth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences' preseason polls, released Monday by conference officials.

The Maverick women received one first place vote and received 136 total points in the polling of the conference's 14 head coaches, who were asked to rank their opposition 1-13 without voting for their own squad.  The Mavs took third at last year's RMAC Indoor Championships before going on to finish fourth at the outdoor championships.

Defending indoor champion Colorado School of Mines topped the poll with six first place votes and 153 total points, just ahead of UCCS, which received 150 first place votes and 150 points.  UCCS won the RMAC outdoor title after taking second at the 2023 indoor championships.

Adams State was picked third in the poll with two first place votes and 141 points.  Western Colorado (117) and CSU Pueblo (116) were fifth and sixth, respectively while New Mexico Highlands and Chadron State tied for seventh with 80 points.

The Maverick men received 106 points in the polling of the 13 coaches, equal to CSU Pueblo.

They finished sixth at the 2023 RMAC Indoor Championships before finishing a program-best second at the outdoor championships.

Four-time defending champion UCCS received 11 first place votes and topped the men's poll with 135 points while Adams State garnered the other two first place votes and 120 points to claim second in the poll.

Mines was third with 116 while Western Colorado (97) and Chadron State (66) were in the middle of the pack behind CMU and CSU Pueblo.

Both Mavericks squads will begin their season this weekend competing at the Mines Alumni Classic in Golden on Friday evening and Saturday.
