GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A second-half Regis penalty kick propelled Regis to a 1-0 win over the Colorado Mesa women's soccer program and spoiled the Mavericks' Senior Day on Sunday at Community Hospital Unity Field.
The Mavericks have now lost three games in a row after reeling off a program-record 13-game unbeaten streak to begin the 2023 season. With the loss, the Mavs are 12-3-1 overall and in fourth place at 7-3-1 in the RMAC standings.
Regis goalkeeper Grace Glover made eight saves and earned the shutout, as the Mavericks were kept out of the goal despite holding a 19-9 shots advantage in the contest.
Keely Wieczorek made four saves for CMU.
Adessa Correa had four shots and three shots on goal to lead the Mavericks offensively.
Abby Fotheringham and
Mikayla Eccher took three shots each, with Eccher placing two attempts on target.
Colorado Mesa had the majority of possession and offensive chances but weren't able to string anything together for a legitimate chance in front of goal. The Mavericks outshot Regis 12-7 in the first half and 7-2 in the second half but only placed one shot on goal past the 50
th minute.
The Mavs were tantalizingly close to an equalizer a couple times in the final minutes, but
Abby Fotheringham's looping shot from distance skimmed over the crossbar and
Evelyn Hammer's 88
th-minute header went just wide.
Colorado Mesa will conclude its RMAC regular season at Westminster on Wednesday at 6 p.m. After that game, the Mavs will wait to find out their RMAC Tournament seeding and matchup.
