DURANGO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team held the Fort Lewis Skyhawks under ten points in two of the four quarters in a 61-48 win on Friday (Jan. 20) evening at Whalen Gymnasium in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Maverick defense limited Fort Lewis to just nine points in the first quarter and six points in the all-important third quarter. They held Fort Lewis to 26.4 percent from the field including just two made three-points baskets in the game while limiting the Skyhawks to a combined 3-for-27 in the first and third quarters.
Colorado Mesa used their defense to fuel their offense as they shot 45.3 percent from the field and over 84 percent from the free-throw line. They had 34 points in the paint and had a big advantage in second chance points with 11 to the Skyhawks four.
The Mavericks led wire-to-wire scoring the first points of the game and never trailing after.
Olivia Reed led all scorers with 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting (73 percent) from the field to extend her field goal percentage mark on the year to 62.9 percent on the season.

The Mavericks will be back in action on Tuesday in Salt Lake City when they play Westminster in a midweek matchup.
