RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team bounced back from a tough loss last night with a come-from-behind 68-61 win over the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers on Saturday (Jan. 14) afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Mavericks trailed 38-31 at the break but came out and outscored the Hardrockers 37-23 in the second half as the defense stepped up big. They limited the Hardrockers to just 23 percent from the field and just two made three-pointers. The Mavericks outrebounded South Dakota Mines 20-9 in the half and shot over 52 percent.
The win was the first for Colorado Mesa after not leading at the half.
Olivia Reed had an outstanding night as she finished with 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds in 40 minutes of action on the floor. She added two assists, a steal, and two blocks.
She played nearly the entire game with two fouls as she picked up two early including her second with 6:28 to play in the second quarter. She didn't commit a foul after that.
Kylie Kravig finished with 13 points and five assists while teammate
Monica Brooks had 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Mavericks will be back in action next weekend when they have just one game on Friday against Fort Lewis in Durango. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm in Whalen Gymnasium.
