Dere Scores Again, But Mavs Held In Loss

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.Lila Dere scored once again, but a stout Angelo State defense held the Mavericks, who came up just short in a 2-1 loss.

The teams were close to even in shots, with Angelo State's 12 to CMU's 11. But the Belles had the better chances, sending eight shots on target while the Mavericks only mustered two, both by Lila Dere.

Chloe Dody made six saves in a strong performance in net for the Mavs, who fall to 2-3 with the loss. Angelo State remained unbeaten at 4-0-1.

The Belles came out aggressively right at the start of the match, forcing Dody's first save just 26 seconds in. Seven minutes later, Dere had a chance but fired her shot straight at Kira Miller for the ASU keeper's only save of the match.

Angelo State took the lead in the 29th minute on a goal from freshman Hadley Coronado, but Dody came up huge to keep the score at 1-0. Dody made five of her six saves in the first half, including stops two minutes before and 30 seconds after the one goal she allowed.

The Mavericks persevered and found an equalizer from a corner kick in the 58th minute. Kaydree Rapp provided the assist and Dere finished it off for her eighth goal of the season in just five matches.

It was the 30th goal of Dere's career, tying her for second place on the CMU all-time scoring list with Lauren Sell.

Angelo State had an aggressive approach off of kickoffs all game, and it paid off as the Belles found the winner four minutes later. After two shots missed high, senior Cindy Rodriguez found the net with an assist from Mariah Griffin to make it 2-1.

The Mavs pushed forward to try to tie the game again, but none of the four shots that CMU took after giving up the second goal were on target.

Midfielder Mira Houck and center backs Ally Wachtel and Kaydree Rapp played the full 90 minutes. Rapp has played in all 450 possible minutes so far this season.

Colorado Mesa will remain in Texas and have a chance to rebound against Lubbock Christian on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. The Lady Chaps will enter the match with a 3-0-2 record after coming back from a goal down to beat CSU Pueblo 3-1 on Thursday.
