PUEBLO, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team lost some close matches and were defeated 7-0 by St. Mary's (Texas) University in both team's first dual meet of the 2022-23 season on Friday morning here at the Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex.
The match-up was the first of three this weekend for the Mavericks, who will play Lubbock Christian and Fort Hays State in later Pueblo Duals action on Saturday.
In Friday's opener, Maverick sophomore
Macy Richards took her No. 2 singles match against Ashley Penshorn to three sets, but went down, 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3).
Makenna Livingston also battled Angela Vargas in the top flight, but was defeated, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Livingston and Richards had also fell 6-4 to Penshorn and Kyndall Quiroz in the No. 1 doubles affair.
CMU's
Halle Romero and
Paige Furin were also knocked off by the same score in the No. 2 doubles match by the Rattlers' Stela Sifuentes and Gabi Ioannou.
