Carr Leads Senior Laden Lineup in Regular Season Finale

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 17 Colorado Mesa baseball team completed the four-game sweep of their rivals, the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves, on Saturday (May 7) as they came away with a 10-7 win in the final regular season game of the season.

On the mound, the Mavericks ran out freshman Kyle Miller for his first career start. The Pueblo native went two innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked one and struck out four while not factoring into the decision.

Miller turned it over to the bullpen for the rest of the way with eight different pitchers seeing time on the mound. Isaac Hayen was credited with the win and improved to 2-0 after pitching a perfect seventh inning.

Gage Edwards pitched the ninth and recorded two strikeouts to pick up his third save of the season.

Colorado Mesa trotted out a predominantly senior lineup with only junior Haydn McGeary and Miller the non-seniors.

Regular centerfielder Johnny Carr got the start at second base to fit the seniors into the lineup and produced from that spot. Carr finished 3-for-5 with a run scored and two runs driven in.

Matthew Turner and Wacy Crenshaw each finished with two hits in the game.

Caleb Farmer belted his 23rd home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning on a 2-1 pitch. He finished the game 1-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in.

The Mavericks closed out the regular season with a 36-12 mark overall and 23-9 within the conference.

Colorado Mesa will host the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament at The Diamond at Bus Bergman Sports Complex beginning Wednesday. Times and opponents have yet to be determined.
