Denver, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team advance to their second straight RMAC Tournament Championship game with an 18-11 win over UCCS in the semifinal round Friday evening.
The Mavericks (13-5 overall, 10-2 RMAC) were down 2-1 entering the second period as
Kiley Davis had the lone Mavericks first period goal. Davis continued to find the back of the net and lead the team with five goals.
Second period continued to be a battle as the Mavericks and Mountain Lions (11-7 overall, 8-4 RMAC) scored a total of eight goals with the Mavericks having a 5-3 goal advantage.
The Mavericks scored six straight goals with the largest lead of the game coming in the third period from
Taylor Jakeman to extend the lead 12-5. The Mavericks did not let up as they scored a total of seven goals in the third period and five goals in the fourth.
Along with Davis's five-goal game, Caronline Ohngemach hit four in the back of the net with Jakeman and Reagan Wentz getting three goals apiece.
Lula Mitchell continued to protect the net as she made eight saves to earn the win after coming on for relief.
For UCCS, Hannah Mill led the team with five goals and four other Mountain Lions found the back of the net.
The Mavericks had a 31-21 edge on ground balls while causing 24 turnovers –
Erica Rivera and Wentz caused four each.
Up next for the Mavericks is the RMAC Championship and will play the winner of top-seeded Regis and #4 seed Fort Lewis Sunday, May 8 at 12 p.m.
