Mavericks Fall to Regis in RMAC Tournament Championship

Denver, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team fell short in the RMAC championship against top seeded and nation's third ranked Regis Rangers Sunday afternoon.
 
Melanie Evans and Taylor Jakeman led the Mavericks with two goals each while Ali Bryant had a goal and two assists. Evans also recorded an assist to have a total of 35 on the seaason. 
 
Jakeman scored the opening goal just 2:11 into the game to have her 36th goal on the season. Although Regis went on a seven-goal run, the Mavericks had a 4-0 run in the fourth period and outscored Regis 4-2.
 
Reagan Wentz, Emme Rezoski, and Ashton Whittle had one goal apiece – Rezoski has five goals on the season. Whittle had five draw controls and three ground balls while Kelsey Viger and Lula Mitchell finished with four ground balls with Viger also causing four turnovers.
 
In the net, Mitchell and Adelaine Charlsen split time and combined for 13 saves.
 
Kyleigh Peoples led the Rangers with six goals followed by Alexis Parker with four, Bailey Truex with three goals and Gabby Rothermund finding the back of the net twice.
 
The Mavericks will conclude the RMAC season with 256 goals and 123 assists while having a .706 shot on goal percentage. The Mavericks won 278 draw controls while keeping their opponents to 214, had 307 turnovers and 374 ground balls total.
 
Four Mavericks made the RMAC All-Tournament Team: Ali Bryant, Ashton Whittle, Taylor Jakeman and Kiley Davis.
 
Barring a surprise NCAA Tournament selection, the Mavericks will finish the season with a 12-6 record and a second straight RMAC Tournament Championship game appearance.
