SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 10 Colorado Mesa Baseball Team ended their historic season on Saturday (May 28) evening as they fell twice to the Angelo State Rams in the NCAA South Central Super Region Tournament at Foster Field. The Mavericks fell 12-3 in game two of the series and 16-6 in game three.
The final game of the series began as a see-saw battle but turned south in the middle innings.
Angelo State plated three runs in the bottom of the second inning
Colorado Mesa took their first lead of the game in the third inning as the Orachard Avenue Bombers hit back-to-back-to-back home runs. With two outs,
Caleb Farmer hit a two-run home run to right center followed by a solo blast from
Haydn McGeary. He was followed by a solo blast from
Spencer Bramwell to give the Mavericks a 4-3 lead. The trio finished with a combined home run total of 85 home runs.
Senior
Johnny Carr added to the total with a two-run double down the left field line to make it 6-3 in the top half of the fourth inning.
Then things took a turn for the worse. Angelo State socred six runs in the bottom half and added three more in the fifth. They scored four more in the seventh with all 13 of those runs unanswered.
Carr finished the game 4-for-4 with three doubles and a run scored.
Ryan Day earned the start on the mound and pitched on pure guts as he wasn't 100 percent. He didn't factor into the decision and left the game with the lead.
Senior
Dave Henderson was tagged with the loss and fell to 4-4 on the season.
The Maverick pitchers walked 13 batters with seven of those walks coming around to score. Angelo State didn't walk anyone.
Earlier in the Day
In game two of the NCAA South Central Super Regional, No. 5 Angelo State forced a winner-take-all game three after a 12-3 win over No. 10 Colorado Mesa at Foster Field on Saturday (May 28) afternoon.
Angelo State's Aaron Munson improved to 10-2 on the year after allowing three runs on 12 hits, walked one and struck out three in his eight innings. He kept the Maverick bats in check during the game as the 12 hits were scattered throughout.
The big swing for the Mavericks came in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Haydn McGeary led off the inning with a solo home run to right center field. It was his 34
th home run of the season and his 74
th home run of his career making him the all-time career record holder for NCAA Division II in home runs. He moved passed Erkine's Bryan Fogle who hit 73 home runs from 2007-2010 in 223 games. McGeary accomplished the feat in 162 games and still has a year of eligibility remaining.
Caleb Farmer and McGeary each finished the game with three hits.

Colorado Mesa's season comes to a close at 43-17 with the Maverick seniors accruing a 195-56 overall record during their time in the Maroon and White.
