GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa baseball dropped their matchup in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday (May 12) afternoon to the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves 6-5 at The Diamond at the Bus Bergman Sports Complex.
CSU Pueblo led 3-1 heading to the bottom of the third inning when the Maverick barrage opened.
Haydn McGeary hammered a 1-0 pitch to left field for his 28
th home run of the season and tied the game at 3-3.
Spencer Bramwell was the next batter that stepped to the plate, and he delivered. Bramwell sent a 2-0 pitch over the wall in center field for his 21
st of the season and gave the Mavericks a 4-3 lead.
Conrad Villafuerte was the next batter and he stepped up to complete the trifecta. Villafuerte sent a 2-1 pitch over the wall in left field for his third round tripper of the season and gave the Mavericks a 5-3 lead in the game.
After that, the Colorado Mesa offense went silent.
The Mavericks couldn't come up with a hit after
Jordan Stubbings' single up the middle in the in the bottom of the sixth.
Meanwhile, the ThunderWolves scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and eighth innings to take the lead and the game.
Ryan Day was saddled with his first loss of the season. The senior pitched well enough to win after allowing six runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out five in seven and a third inning pitched.
Colorado Mesa will play an elimination game at 11am tomorrow morning against the loser of tonight's game between MSU Denver and Colorado School of Mines.
