Mavericks Fall Short to #3 Regis in Last RMAC Regular Season Game

Grand Junction, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team celebrated senior day on Community Hospital Unity Field Saturday afternoon but fall short to #3 Regis Rangers in final RMAC regular season game.
 
It was a battle in the first period for the Mavericks (12-5 overall, 10-2 RMAC) as there were a total of nine goals with Regis (17-0 overall, 12-0 RMAC) having a 5-4 goal advantage to conclude the beginning 15 minutes.
 
Melanie Evans received the first goal of the game less than two minutes in to get her 16th goal of the season. Brianna Anderson shortly after got herself two goals in the period with one goal being an assist from Evans. The last time the Mavericks led the game was with 7:30 remaining in the first period but they did not make it easy for the Rangers.
 
The Mavericks caused 18 turnovers and had a 14-10 edge on draw controls. With eight goals falling in, Mesa took 14 shots on goal to have a .701 shot on goal percentage for the season.
 
Ashton Whittle had a two-goal game that came in the second and third period but was a constant threat around goal. Kiley Davis, Reagan Wentz and Taylor Jakeman also got one goal apiece – they are the top three leading scorers for the Mavericks with Davis sitting at 42 goals, Jakeman with 32 goals and Wentz following with 25 goals.
 
Shannon Murphy and Lula Mitchell split time to record 30 minutes each with Murphy having one save and Mitchell getting seven saves and only allowed five goals.
 
Hannah Krats led the way for the Rangers as she added three goals and one assist to her name, followed by five Rangers having two goals apiece and two Rangers finding the back of the net one time each. Goalkeeper Brigit Goetsch played all 60 minutes and had six saves.
 
Saturday afternoon, the Mavericks celebrated four seniors – Nici Boutwell, Elizabeth Posavad, Ashton Whittle and Lula Mitchell.
 
Up next for the Mavericks is the RMAC Tournament. The semifinals (time and place TBD) will be held by the highest seed on Friday, May 6 followed by the championship game Sunday, May 8.
