McGeary's Four Homers Lead #11 Mavericks to 20-7 Win

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The No. 11 Colorado Mesa baseball team continued their offensive onslaught of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pitching on Friday (Apr. 29) with a 20-7 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars at All-Star Park.

In the rich history of Maverick baseball, something occurred today that has never happened before in the history of the program. Haydn McGeary blasted four home runs and finished the game 5-for-5 with six runs scored and six runs driven in in the Herculean effort.

The junior hit his first (solo) in the third inning and followed up with his second (two-run) in the fourth inning. His third home run (solo) of the game came in the seventh inning and closed out the feat with his fourth (two-run) round tripper coming in the eighth.

Not to be outdone on the day, Spencer Bramwell and Jonathon Gonzalez each finished with three hits. Bramwell finished the game 3-for-4 with four runs scored, two runs driven in, a double and he hammered his 18th home run of the season in the top half of the fifth inning.

Gonzalez came in as a replacement for Chase Hamilton and scored a run, drove in a run and hit a triple.

Matthew Turner turned in a solid performance at the dish. The senior went 2-for-5 with four runs driven in including his sixth big fly of the season.

Jordan Stubbings and Johnny Carr each had multi-hit games as well.

Kannon Handy got the start on the mound for the Mavericks in game one of the series and he didn't disappoint. The sophomore was cruising through six innings but ran into trouble in the seventh inning and finished after allowing six runs (all in the seventh inning) in six and two-thirds innings. He allowed eight hits, walked four and fanned nine to improve to 8-1 on the season.

Cade Nicol and Cole Seward combined to pitch the final two and a third innings of the game

The Cougs were led by Wyatt Crenshaw, brother of Maverick Wacy Crenshaw, as he went 3-for-5 with two home runs, two runs scored and three runs driven in.

Colorado Mesa improves to 32-9 on the season and maintain their two game lead on MSU Denver as they were winners over Regis on Friday.

The two teams will play a doubleheader with two seven-inning games tomorrow beginning at 12pm from All-Star Park.
