#9 Mavericks Sweep Pod Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALAMOSA, Colo. – The No. 9 Colorado Mesa baseball team swept their doubleheader day on Saturday (Apr. 2) as a part of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod weekend at Adams State Baseball Field.
 
In game one of the day, the Mavericks squared off with the host Adams State Grizzlies and got another strong pitching performance in the pod weekend as they defeated the Grizzlies 13-0.
 
Cooper Vasquez earned the start for the Mavericks in the matchup and was brilliant. The Ohlone Junior College transfer pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out nine to earn his third win of the season.
 
Vasquez retired the final 11 batters he faced and had a four-strikeout inning in the fourth inning as the second batter he faced in the inning reached on a wild pitch.
 
The right gave way to his bullpen in the eighth inning and handed the ball over to freshman Cole Seward. Seward preserved the shutout after pitching the final two innings and allowed just one hit and struck out four.
 
Colorado Mesa scored in six of the nine innings they batted en route to their 13 runs in the game. They had 11 hits in the game including five that went for extra bases.
 
Harrison Rodgers was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, three runs driven in and two walks. Rodgers hit his eighth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning that made the score 6-0 at the time.
 
Haydn McGeary went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four runs driven in during the win. The designated hitter hit two home runs in the game to boost him into the team lead with 13 on the season. His first home run of the game came in the third inning a three-run shot to left field before he hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
 
Chase Hamilton hit his third home run of the season in the fourth inning.
 
In game two, the Mavericks took on the Regis Rangers and came away with a 15-12 win for their third win of the weekend. The 27 runs in the game saw 19 of those runs scored in the final four innings of play.
 
For the second straight game, the Mavericks got home runs out of Harrison Rodgers and Haydn McGeary. McGeary gave the Mavericks their first and only lead of the game in the first inning with a solo shot to right center while Rodgers hit a solo big fly in the sixth inning. The duo each finished the game with two hits.
 
Stevenson Reynolds and Chase Hamilton each had two hits in the game.
 
Caleb Farmer had the big bat in the game finishing 3-for-6 with three runs scored and three runs driven in. He hit a two-run home run to right center in the top of the eighth inning to give him 13 on the season.
 
Dave Henderson earned the win on the mound in the night cap. Henderson allowed three runs, on five hits, walked two and struck out six in six innings of work against the Rangers.
 
Colorado Mesa will finish out the pod with a single nine-inning game at 11am on Sunday against Adams State.
