Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team pushed through back-to-back game days as they defeat Colorado College Tigers for the second time in school history in an exhibition game on Friday, Apr. 15.
Taylor Jakeman was unstoppable as she scored six goals. With six reaching in the net, Jakeman took eight shots total with seven shots on goal.
The Mavericks trailed the Tigers in the first period 2-1 with the lone goal coming from Jakeman with 6:01 remaining. The Mavericks stepped up as Jakeman started off the second period with another goal that was assisted from
Melanie Evans. Jakeman concluded the period with two more goals to lead the Tigers 4-3.
The Mavericks led the rest of the game as they allowed the Tigers one goal per period.
Following Jakeman's six-goal game is
Molly Gilbert who scored two goals – coming in the third period that was unassisted and in the fourth period with 0:58 remaining to conclude the game with a 12-5 win.
On the defensive side, Caroline Ohngemac and
Kelsey Viger had four ground balls apiece and goalkeeper Lula Mitchel made seven saves.
Three Tigers scored with two coming from Courtney Zell and one goal apiece from Tobin Lonergan and Caroline Shay.
Next up for the Mavericks will be at home at Community Hospital Unity Field against Westminster College Wednesday, Apr. 20 at 5:00 p.m.
