The Mavericks Extend Their RMAC Record 7-1 After Defeating the Skyhawks

Durango, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team continues to extend their winning record as they defeat Fort Lewis College 17-10 in a conference matchup Thursday evening.
 
The Mavericks (9-4 overall, 7-1 RMAC) dominated the Skyhawks in the first period as they scored seven goals while keeping their opponents to two goals. Two minutes into the game, Ali Bryant fired one in the goal from inside the circle who was assisted by Melanie Evans.
 
The Skyhawks (4-8 overall, 4-4 RMAC) fired back as Caprietta Abbadessa and Haley Dostie hit a goal each within 30 seconds of each other – being the only time the Skyhawks led the game.
 
Following the Skyhawks back-to-back goals, four different Mavericks scored with another goal coming from Byrant to conclude the first period and Evans finding the back of the net twice herself. Evans had an outstanding game as she hit two more goals in the third period and totaled four assists. Evans leads the team with 15 assists and is tied for fifth most in CMU single-game history.
 
Taylor Jakeman continues be a strong leader for the team as she scored four goals against the Skyhawks. Jakeman is now the second leading scorer for the Mavericks with 26 – sitting behind Kiley Davis with 29.
 
Ali Bryant finished the game with three goals, Caroline Ohngemach and Davis getting two a piece and Brianna Anderson and Ashton Whittle each finding the net once.
 
The Mavericks took 41 shots total with 28 coming on goal and keeping the Skyhawks with 20 shots and 12 being on goal.
 
Dostie and Liv Crawford of the Skyhawks each hit three goals with Abbadessa adding two goals to her name to continue to be the top three scorers for their team. Maren Clark also found the back of the net to get her fourth goal of the season.
 
Up next for the Mavericks is an exhibition game in Colorado Springs, Colorado against the Colorado College Tigers Friday, Apr. 15 at 1:00 p.m. on Washburn Field. The next regular season conference game for the Mavericks will be at home on Community Hospital Unity Field against Westminster College, Wednesday Apr. 20 at 5:00 p.m.
