ALAMOSA, Colo. – The No. 9 Colorado Mesa baseball team opened the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod weekend with an 8-1 win over the Regis Rangers at Adams State Baseball Field.
Lefty
Kannon Handy had another solid start on the mound as he earned the win after pitching six innings. Handy (5-1) allowed one run and scattered five hits across his six innings of work while walking two and striking out five.
Despite throwing just 68 pitches in his outing, Handy gave way to

Regis scored the first run of the game on a first and third double steal in the third inning. The Mavericks proceeded to score eight runs following the inning.
Jordan Stubbings pushed the first run across in the bottom of the fourth inning on a RBI groundout before
Harrison Rodgers' RBI single came just one batter later to make it 2-1.
After a safety squeeze by
Matthew Turner in the fifth inning, Rodgers tallied his second RBI of the day on a groundout followed by
Jordan Stubbings scoring on a balk.
The Mavericks pushed across three runs in the eighth inning highlighted by a solo home run by Stubbings.
The senior first baseman finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Conrad Villafuerte finished with two hits as well.
The pod weekend goes into the standings as non-conference games and will resume tomorrow. Colorado Mesa is set to take on both Regis and Adams State tomorrow beginning at 11am.
