GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Back on their home turf, the Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team was in search of their second win over a ranked opponent, this time taking on No. 4 Lindenwood.
Putting past two goals in three of the four periods, and holding the visitors scoreless in the final period, the Mavericks (4-3) effort wasn't enough to overcome an early deficit as the Lions took a roaring 18-6, win Sunday afternoon on Community Hospital Unity Field.

Taylor Jakeman with half of the team's total goals, matching her season high and bringing her total to 11 and the third to reach double-digits.
Regan Wentz followed up with two goals, converting both her free position shots.
Hanging with the Lions the Mavs won 11 draw controls,
Ali Bryant coming away with three. Each team caused seven turnovers,
Ashton Whittle and
Bryant each with two.
The Lions jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead within the first six minutes of play. At the 8:42 mark, Wentz put through her first free position goal to avoid the shutout. Jakeman then scored on another free position attempt to give the team their second goal.
Lindenwood snagged the first goal of the second, but the Mavs went on to rally off two goals within a minute of each other to close the gap.
However, they would fall quiet for the remainder of the period trailing 15-4 at the half.
CMU's defense came alive in the third, holding off the scoring efforts for nearly half of the third period and conceding just three goals. Unable to add on in the fourth, it was all Mavericks in the final period Wentz scoring her 14
th goal of the season, Jakeman scoring in the final minute on a
second chance opportunity to close out the scoring.
Lula Mitchell came in to log 52 minutes between the pipes, making two saves.
Colorado Mesa turns their attention back to conference action, heading to No. 11 Regis next Friday (April 1).
