Lakeland, Fla. – Facing the first of five top-ranked teams, Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse put in goals in each period, netting three in the first and third but the efforts weren't enough as they fell to No. 6 Florida Southern, Sunday here at Berend Field.
Hailey Daleo scored two out of the gates for the Mocs. However,
Kiley Davis put through two to even the score. That would be the closest score of the afternoon, as the home team went on a scoring spree, tacking on 10 goals in the first period to the Mavs three.
In the second they added another handful,
Taylor Jakeman breaking through on an unassisted goal at the 9:17 mark, as they went into the half with a 15-4 difference.
Payton Walker got her team on the board in the opening minute of the third period,
Kelsey Viger in on the assist for her first of the season.
Elizabeth Renken and
Molly Gilbert also chipped in a goal as the Mavs went on to outscore their opponent 3-2 in the period.
Kiley Davis would net her fourth, and the team's lone goal of the fourth and final period.
Shannon Murphy tallied a save in the first three periods,
Adelaine Charlsen making an appearance in goal with a save in the fourth. The defense was led by
Elizabeth Posavad who caused a team high three turnovers, and picked up a couple ground balls.
They will look to rebound in a couple days when the head to No. 8 Rollins College, Tuesday (March 22). Game time against the Tars is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. MST.
