GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 6 Colorado Mesa baseball team fell in the series finale 14-6 to the visiting UCCS Mountain Lions on Sunday (Mar. 20) afternoon at Bergman Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Mountain Lions scored in six of the nine innings and the Mavericks could never catch back up fully. They had a few bright spots at the plate on the day as three players finished with multiple hits in the game.
Harrison Rodgers led the way with a 3-for-5 performance including his seventh home run of the season and his first since the season opening trip to Southern California. Rodgers drove a 1-1 pitch out to right field to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. He added a double in the fourth inning and was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple on a controversial call.
Spencer Bramwell,
Stevenson Reynolds and
Johnny Carr all had two hits in the game. Bramwell launched his sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning, a two-run shot to left center field.
Colorado Mesa had eight pitchers throw on the day with no one going more than two innings.
Joey Mazzetti started and was tagged with the loss.
The Mavericks were scheduled to play a two-game series with nationally ranked Central Missouri but those games have been canceled due to the projected forecast in Warrensburg, Mo. this week. There next games will be the non-conference RMAC pod games beginning on April 1 in Alamosa.
