GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – For the third straight game, the Colorado Mesa (3-0) women's lacrosse team outscored their opponent by double-digits, their 16-5 victory over the visiting McKendree Bearcats the third straight win for the Mavericks.
Kiley Davis matched a career high with five goals, adding an assist for a six-point performance.
Regan Wentz,
Ashton Whittle,
Taylor Jakeman and
Elizabeth Renken also turning in a couple goals each throughout the game.
The Mavs continued to turn up their offensive pressure, with a 34-15 shot advantage. A clean 16-16 in clears, they also turned in a 15-10 edge in draw controls.
Nici Boutwell and Whittle, finishing with five a piece to lead that category.
In their previous outing against Fort Lewis, they held the Skyhawks scoreless in two of the four periods, repeating that same defensive pressure Wednesday afternoon. Up until the fourth period the Bearcats put just one on the board. The Mav tallied six before giving up the first goal, the Bearcats other four goals getting through in the final period.
Just under a minute in, Davis netted her first goal of the day, Jakeman in on the assist. At the 10:37 mark the roles were reversed with Jakeman taking it in to the score, Davis handing out the assist.
With an 8-1 lead at the half, they would build up to a 12-1 lead by the end of the third.
The Bearcats came out firing to open the fourth, putting through two quick goals in the opening minutes, scoring another two within the same minute midway through. The final three goals though would come off the sticks of Mavericks players, regaining the double-digit lead.
Colorado Mesa will head to the Sunshine State for Spring Break, with games scheduled against Florida Southern, Rollins College and Saint Leo throughout the week.
