DENVER— Jorge Abreu and
Christian Albrechtsen claimed 3-set singles wins while Albrechtsen and
Tyler Landen paired for a No. 1 doubles victory to lead the Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team in a neutral-site match against Western New Mexico University on Tuesday here at MSU Denver's Assembly Athletic Complex.
However, the Mustangs (8-4) won the other four singles matches after claiming the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and 3, to claim the dual victory.
Albrechtsen and Landen posted a 6-3 win over Jonathan Vega and Javier Romero in doubles.
Abreu then claimed his third straight singles victory with 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win over Romero at No. 3 before Albrechtsen, who has now won two straight singles and four straight overall matches, came from a set down to defeat Joaquin Delpino by a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 margin at No. 2.
That victory pulled the Mavs to within 3-2.
The Mustangs were able to win two 3-set matches of their own as Patricio Larrera and Brendan Lock won at No. 5 and 6 to seal up the dual.
CMU, now 3-9, will now head to California for three matches in as many days, beginning Saturday at No. 16 Azusa Pacific.
