Lubbock, Texas – Colorado Mesa men's basketball saw their season come to an end Tuesday night, a late push not enough to come back in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championship, falling to Black Hills State 72-62.
The team capped off the season with a school record 26 wins (26-10), and were the first in program history to play in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
Trailing throughout the 40-minutes, the Mavericks were able to break within one, the closest coming at the 6:15 mark in the second half. The Yellowjackets strung together a 9-1 run, regaining the eventual double-digit lead. Joel Scott led his team with 20-points and 12-rebounds.
Jared Small capped off his Maverick career with a team leading 16 points. Fellow senior,
Georgie Dancer handed out five assists and five rebounds on the night.
Trevor Baskin added 12 points,
Reece Johnson with 10 to round out the Mavs in double-figures.
Blaise Threatt knocked in nine points and seven rebounds.
