GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – For the fourth straight season, the Colorado Mesa women's basketball team will be playing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference semifinals after defeating the UCCS Mountain Lions 79-48 on Tuesday (Mar. 1) evening in Brownson Arena.
After leading 42-28 at halftime, the Mavericks outscored the Mountain Lions 16-6 in the third quarter to take a commanding 58-34 lead into the fourth quarter. Colorado Mesa finished off the game by a 21-14 margin in the fourth quarter.
They limited UCCS to just 27.9 percent shooting from the field and just two made three-point baskets. The Mountain Lions stayed in the game as they had 18 rebounds on the offensive end of the floor but only led to seven second chance points.
Daniella Turner led all scorers with 28 points that tied a season-high. She was 12-for-20 from the field but did not make a three-point basket but had six rebounds and two steals.
Her partner in crime,
Mariah Martin, finished with 23 points that helped the duo outscore the Mountain Lions by themselves. Martin added eight assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Fellow senior
Kelsey Siemons had five points and nine rebounds with all of those coming in the first half. She now sits at 999 career points.
The Mavericks are now 23-5 on the season and will finish the campaign with a 13-1 record in Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks will play the remaining tournament in Golden as the Orediggers secured a win over Western Colorado in their quarterfinal matchup. Colorado Mesa will play the MSU Denver Roadrunners at 7:30pm on Friday.
