Mavericks Tame Pesky Mountain Lions 69-63

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team had an up and down game but finished on the 'up' as they came away with a 69-63 win over UCCS on the road in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The win gives the Mavericks six wins in a row with three of those coming on the road.

The Mavericks (18-4, 13-4 RMAC) led by as many 12 with 2:50 to play in the first quarter but saw that lead evaporate as UCCS (9-13, 7-9 RMAC) took a 27-26 lead with 3:21 to play in the second quarter. They then got the lead back up to 11 points at 51-40 with 2:33 to play in the third quarter only to see that lead disappear as the Mountain Lions went on a 13-0 run to take a 53-51 lead with 7:25 to play in the game.

Colorado Mesa regained an eight-point lead with just 30 seconds left to play and wouldn't look back.

Mariah Martin led all scorers with 25 points and handed out seven assists while teammate Daniella Turner had a slow start to the night but finished with 16 points after going 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.

Kelsey Siemons finished with 12 points and eight rebounds to round out the Mavericks in double-digits. The Tucson native also had two blocked shots which moves her into second on the all-time blocks list by herself, sliding ahead of Maverick great Pam DeCosta.

UCCS' Shelby Megyeri finished with a team-high 18 points while teammate Agar Farres had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Colorado Mesa will close out their weeklong, three-game road trip on Friday when they play Adams State in Alamosa.
