Kingsville, Texas – On day two of the Texas A&M Kingsville Invitational, the Colorado Mesa (2-2) beach volleyball team left no doubt, shutting out Missouri Baptist and University of Mary Hardin Baylor to finish the weekend on high notes.
In the first game of the day against the Spartans of Missouri Baptist the Mavericks won all five flights in straight sets to claim the dual. The Mavs held their opponent to single digits in the first set in four of the five flights.
Ara Norwood and partner
Sierra Hunt claimed their first victory of the season, downing Natalie Edson and Marina Obradovic, 21-8, 21-14. The duo then played in the exhibition sets against Mary Hardin Baylor, winning in convincing fashion, 21-3, 21-6.
Sabrina Vandelist and
Tye Wedhorn contributed to the team's score playing at the No. 5 flight and snagging their first wins of the season. Against Missouri Baptist they kept the opposition to 19-points combined on the match.
Holly Schmidt and
Macie Lachemann would build on their record, finishing the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record at the No. 2 position.
Jessa Megenhardt and
Jada Hall move to 3-1 on the season, as do
Hahni Johnson and
Savannah Spitzer.
Playing just one match on the day,
Ashton Reese and
Savannah Ott took a 21-8, 21-11 win at the fours against Mary Hardin Baylor.
The team will turn their attention to Arizona next weekend for the Cactus Classic where their faceoff with four Division I opponents.
