PHOENIX— Moises Cure,
Jorge Abreu and
Steven Howe all won matches although the Colorado Mesa University Maverick men's tennis team was defeated, 6-1 by Arizona Christian University on Saturday morning here at the Grand Canyon University Tennis Facility.
Abreu and Howe claimed a 6-4 win oat No. 2 doubles while Cure won his No. 3 singles match, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 over Andre Millett.
Howe also took his No. 1 singles match to three sets but was downed by Anthony Popyrin, ranked 25th in the NAIA, by a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 score.
The Firestorm are now 4-2 on the season while the Mavericks fell to 2-3 with their third setback of the opening spring weekend.
CMU returns to the courts next week facing NCAA Division I Idaho State and Weber State on the road.
