HUNTSVILLE, Ala.— Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball players Macie Lachemann and Holly Schmidt began their weekend at the AVCA Fall Beach Championships on Friday here at the John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex.
 
The Maverick duo, one of just two in the 64-team competition from Division II, dropped all three of their Pool 2 matches against NCAA Division I foes and will now play in the 49^th place bracket on Saturday.
 
On Friday, the dropped their pool-opener to Grand Canyon's Allison Hansen and Abbie Hughes, the second overall seed among 64 teams, by a 21-16, 21-14 margin.
 
Lachemann and Schmidt then fell to LMU's Jacinda Ramirez and Abbey Throup by a 21-15, 21-18 margin in their second match before falling 21-14, 21-10 to Coastal Carolina's Irena Drobnjak and Ellie Hanford.
 
On Saturday, the Mavericks will begin bracket play at 9 a.m. CST (8 a.m. Mountain) against Tulane No. 2 pair Abby Jackson and Samantha Mehlman.
