MARSHALL, Mo. – The Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team had four wrestlers advance to day two of the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday (Nov. 19) at the Burns Athletic Complex. The Mavericks finished with one tournament placer of the four that competed today.
Jayleen Sekona finished in seventh place after going 2-1 on the day. She started with an 11-0 technical fall win over Madeline Welch of Life University before falling 4-1 to Grace Kristoff of Southern Oregon to drop into the seventh/eighth place bout.
Sekona matched up with a familiar foe in that match when she squared off with Aubrey Yauger of Texas Woman's. The Anchorage native fell twice to her thus far but today would be different as Sekona came away with an 8-3 decision victory.
Jennesis Martinez won her only bout she contested on the day at 101 pounds. Martinez pinned Jolie Lucas of Texas Wesleyan at 3:53 before pulling herself out of the tournament with an injury.
Hailey Chapman and
Lizzie Miller both dropped their first matches of the day at 130 pounds. Chapman fell to Simon Fraser's Marquesis Haintz by tech fall 10-0 while Miller fell to Adrienna. Turner by technical fall 10-0 also.
Colorado Mesa will be back in action with a pair of duals against Schreiner and Texas Woman's in Denton, Texas on Saturday December 3.
