Rebounding Hurts Mavericks in Loss to #13 Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team kept it close with No. 13 Colorado School of Mines as they outshot the Orediggers 36.7 percent to 30.2 percent but were outrebounded 44-34 in a 59-51 loss on Friday evening in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The Mavericks had just four players score on the night with senior Daniella Turner leading the way. She had 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting including 7-of-7 from the free-throw line and a team-high seven rebounds. The 21 points was a game-high on the evening.

Defensively, the Mavericks did a good job on the Orediggers top scorers. They limited Denali Pinto to 2-of-14 shooting and Sammy Van Sickle to 2-of-9 from the field but the Orediggers as a unit had 20 offensive rebounds and took 14 more shots on the evening.

Monica Brooks had 13 on the night while Mariah Martin finished with 10 points and Emily Cavey with seven points to round out the Maverick scorers.

The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow night when they take on Regis in Denver at 4pm.
