Grand Junction, Colo. -- Colorado Mesa doubled the amount of shots taken, and held a 9-5 edge in shots on target, unfortunately the visiting Fort Lewis Skyhawks would take away the win, Friday night on Maverick Field.
The Mavericks outshot their opponent in both frames, totaling 18 on the night. They also got to the corner nine times, to the Skyhawks one on the night.
Gabriel Peres collected his first score of the season, drawing the foul in the box and then capitalizing on the awarded penalty kick.
The Skyhawks would level the score in the 31
st minute. Gabriel Legendre added on the deciding goal in the 60
th minute on a long pass from midfield, Georgi Stoyanov and Ciaran Feeney getting the helper stats.
Connor Durant picked up three saves on the night. Peres led the offensive attack, taking three shots, two landing between the posts.
Diogo Silva matched the leading shot total with three, one on target.
Demetrio Baldo and
Isa Trujillo held strong at the back line for all 90-minutes of the match.
The Mavs will turn their focus to conference play, hitting the road the CSU Pueblo next Friday, Oct. 1. Game tine is scheduled for 4 p.m.
