GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The top-ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team closed out the regular season with an 11-1 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars on Saturday afternoon at Suplizio Field.
Senior
Tyler Parker had quite the game in his final regular season contest. The Hillsboro, Ore. native led off the game with an inside-the-park home run to center field to give the Mavericks an early 1-0 lead.
Parker didn't finish there. In his next plate appearance, he hammered his eighth home run of the season, this one a two-run shot to left field giving him two home runs in the game, one inside-the-park and the other an over the fence one.
He finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs driven in.
Later in the third inning,
Haydn McGeary hit his 17
th home run of the season, a solo shot to right field to give the Mavericks a 4-1 lead. McGeary finished the game 2-for-4 and finished the regular season with a .500 batting average.
In the bottom of the fourth inning,
Jordan Stubbings stepped to the plate and hit his 11
th home run of the season, a solo shot off the batter's eye in center field to make it 5-1.
Johnny Carr and
Chase Hamilton each finished with multiple hits in the game.
Senior
Trevin Reynolds earned the win on the mound as he allowed on run (unearned) on six hits, walked one and struck out five in six innings of work to earn his seventh win of the season. In his 89 pitches, he induced the Cougars into four fly ball outs and eight ground ball outs.
A trio of relievers combined for three innings with one walk and five strikeouts in the final three innings of work.
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released the tournament bracket this evening as well. The Mavericks will take on Colorado Christian at 2pm on Wednesday May 19 in the second game of the tournament.
The tournament will open at 10am that day with second-seeded MSU Denver taking on fifth-seeded CSU Pueblo with the final game of the day pitting third-seeded UCCS taking on fourth-seeded Regis at 8pm.
