GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa (4-3-1, 2-2 RMAC) women's soccer team got back in the win column Thursday afternoon, thanks to a goal by
Lila Dere in the 74
th minute. The Mavericks then played lights out defense to hold on for the 1-0 win.
As a team, the Mavericks took 10 shots, with four on goal. MSU Denver took nine shots, five targeted at the goal but standing in their way was senior goalkeeper,
Emily Signorio who picked up all five saves to give the team another shutout.
After going scoreless for 73-minutes, Dere found an opening in MSU Denver's defense and struck the ball from the top of the box. Her shot appeared as though it would sore high and out, but curved into the top-left corner of the goal frame catching Diyonus Walls off guard.
The goal put her at six for season, which leads the team and is tied for the most in the conference. It also marked her third game winner of the season.
UP NEXT: The team will close of the rest of the regular season on the road, making their way to Westminster Sunday looking to avenge their early season loss.
