HOW IT HAPPENED
Nearly ten minutes into play, a pass from the far side of the field found an open Beames who tapped it for her first goal of the season, and the very early Maverick lead.
Then in the 18
th minute,
Lexi Newton controlled a high arching pass up the field battling between a couple of Griffin defenders. In an effort to clear the ball by passing it to the goalkeeper, the ball deflected into an open space where Dere came sprinting in and just beat out Naomi Kehl, scoring her 7
th goal of the season.
In the 61
st minute, it became Newton's turn to score, controlling a pass from Klasner and winning the one-on-one over Kehl, taking a power shot inside the box for the Mavericks third goal.
Looking to close it out, the Griffins would spoil the shutout possibility scoring in the 84
th minute.
The Mavericks have one more road trip, heading to Durango for rematch with the Skyhawks.
