Streaking Roadrunners top CMU women

Mavericks will attempt to bounce back with two Saturday matches

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team's 3-match winning streak came to an end on Friday as visiting MSU Denver swept the Mavericks in a battle of Pacific West Conference foes on Friday afternoon at the Elliott Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners, who have now won seven straight matches, won the dual 7-0 after winning 6-1 in Denver last Friday and improved to 11-9 on the year while the Mavericks fell to 10-11 on the year heading into their final two regular season matches of the season on Saturday when they will host CSU Pueblo at 9:30 a.m. and Colorado College at 2:30 p.m.

Senior Day festivities will be held in between at 1:15 when the Mavericks will honor Carolena Campos, Alexi Klabunde and 2020 senior Kristen Kirby, who had her final season as a Mav cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Friday, the Roadrunners won all three doubles matches and then took five of the six singles matches in straight sets.  Marie Cool also claimed a 3-set, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 10-5 win over Julianna Campos in the No. 6 singles affair.

Issy Coman also put up a good fight in the No. 1 singles affair but was downed by Brooklyn Ross, 6-4, 6-3.
