GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After recording 18-goals against Westminster the week prior, the No. 25 Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team created a new season high, scoring 24 goals in Thursday evening's triumph over Adams State on Maverick Field.
Not only did this evening mark a season high in goals but it also set a new school-record in single game. The team's 17 assists matched the record high, and set a new record in points, combing for 41.
Five players also picked up their first goals of the season.
Kiley Davis and
Amber Wennerstrom led with three goals apiece, followed by five other Maverick players who tallied multiple goals on the day.
Melanie Evans was just one of those players, who was behind two goals and added three assists for a team-high five points.
Ashton Whittle and
Nici Boutwell picked up four draw controls each, helping the Mavericks to dominate 19-7 in that category.
CMU asserted their dominance early, going on a 6-0 run before the Grizzlies would get on the board. By the end of the first half, the Mavericks had built up their lead to 18-1. With a running clock, the team moved the ball around and got some new faces into the lineup.
The team will have a quick turnaround, hitting the road for a faceoff with the Fort Lewis Skyhawks Saturday, Apr. 3 on Dirks Field.
