LA MIRADA, Calif.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team dropped two Pacific West Conference matches on Saturday falling at 11
th-ranked Azusa Pacific in the morning before dropping another 7-0 match to Biola here in the afternoon.
The Mavericks, who were off to a 6-0 start, have now dropped five straight to slip to 6-5 while going 0-3 in their debut weekend of conference matches in southern California.
After failing to win a set against the APU Cougars, who improved to 3-0 with the win, the Mavericks were able to claim a No. 3 doubles win against Biola.
Lauren Thomas and
Julianna Campos were 6-3 victors over Amelia Kitts and Gabby Carvajal.
Issy Coman was the lone Maverick to win a set in singles as she took the second set in her No. 2 singles match against Carvajal to force a tie-breaker, which Carvajal won 10-7. Carvajal had won the first set 6-4.
Campos also put up a strong fight at No. 6 against Kitts, but fell 6-4, 7-5.
Biola improved to 6-2 overall and 3-2 against PacWest foes with the victory.
The Mavericks will look to bounce back as they return home to face Dallas Baptist on Tuesday at 11 a.m. That match will be their first of the season at the Elliott Tennis Center.
