Mavericks Sweep Doubleheader from Grizzlies in Windy Alamosa

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The No. 2 Colorado Mesa baseball team improved to 18-2 on the season after a doubleheader sweep of Adams State as a part of the two make-up games from earlier this season at ASU Baseball Field.
 
In the opening game of the day, the Mavericks scored 26 runs on 20 hits in a 26-8 win over the Grizzlies.
 
Pinch hitter Christian Slater paced the Mavericks going 1-for-1 with five runs driven in. Slater hit a pinch-hit grand slam to center field. in the top of the sixth inning to push the Maverick lead to 21-7. Slater added a bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh inning.
 
Johnny Carr was the hits leader for Colorado Mesa with three as he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs driven in. He had two doubles and a sac bunt in the game.
 
Spencer Bramwell and Tyler Parker each had home runs in the game as well.
 
Jared Ure got the midweek start and came away with the win to improve to 2-1 on the season. Ure allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits, walked one and struck out two in four innings of work.
 
Josh Danyliw and Brody McCord combined to pitch the final three innings.
 
In the second and final game against the Grizzlies this season, Anthony Durbano and a trio of Maverick relievers limited Adams State to two runs on six hits in a 12-2 win in gusty Alamosa.
 
Durbano made his first start of the season and earned the win to go 2-1 on the season. He allowed two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out five in his four innings of work.
 
Ryan Overboe, Cade Nicol, and Frankie Fitzgerald combined to pitch three hitless innings allowing just one walk and striking out seven.
 
Designated hitter Tanner Rempel pushed the Maverick lead to 3-0 after hitting a two-run homer to left center. The senior finished the game 2-for-2 with a run scored and three runs driven in.
 
Rempel, Haydn McGeary, Jordan Stubbings, and Blaine Demello each had a multi-hit game.
 
Chase Hamilton and Stubbings each added home runs as well.
 
The Mavericks improve their record to 18-2 on the season and 15-1 in the conference.
 
Colorado Mesa will be off this weekend as they will have their conference bye week but will be back in action against hot-hitting MSU Denver on April 9 at Suplizio Field
