Mavericks Fall in Series Finale to UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 2 Colorado Mesa baseball team fell in the series finale to the No. 14 UCCS Mountain Lions 6-5 in 11 innings at Mountain Lion Park on Sunday in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The loss snaps the Mavericks 12 game winning streak that dated back to the opening weekend of the season.

The Mavericks were on the verge of sweeping the series after leading by two in the ninth, 5-3. They allowed two runs after allowing the first batter of the inning to reach on an error immediately followed by a pinch-hit two-run home run.

Colorado Mesa fell behind after the first inning but mounted another big inning like they have all weekend with four runs in the third inning. Caleb Farmer had a RBI double to right center while two batters later Tyler Parker blasted a three-run homer to left center for the 4-1 lead.

The Mavericks tacked on a single run in the sixth inning but couldn't hold onto the lead. After tying the game in the ninth, the Mountain Lions were able to push across a run in the 11th to end the game.

Farmer, Spencer Bramwell and Tanner Garner all had two hits for the Mavericks.

Errors came back to haunt the Mavericks as they committed four errors that led to two runs in the game.

Colorado Mesa's pitching staff was able to strike out 14 Mountain Lions in the game but allowed nine walks. Anthony Durbano was saddled with the loss after allowing one run on two hits, walked two and struck out three in two and two-thirds innings.

The Mavericks will be back home at Suplizio Field next weekend for a RMAC pod as they will host Adams State and Regis.
