GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa starting pitcher
Andrew Morris went seven innings and struck out 13 batters in a 9-1 win over the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Friday afternoon at Suplizio Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The COVID sophomore righthander Morris threw 127 pitches in his seven innings with 77 of those going for strikes. He allowed one run on three hits and walked just two in the start as he improved to 1-0 on the season.
Jared Ure and
Anthony Durbano combined to pitch two shutout innings of relief allowing just two hits.
Matthew Turner provided the spark offensively finishing the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three runs driven in. He hit the first of his two home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, a solo shot to left field. He hit a second home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, a two-run shot to left field.
Chase Hamilton and
Blaine Demello each finished with two hits. Demello drove in two and scored a run in the game.
Colorado Mesa improved to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in RMAC play. They also extend their winning streak to 13 games over the Orediggers.
The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1pm at Suplizio Field.
