Mavericks Fall to No. 12 Regis in Season Opener

DENVER, Colo. – Due to unfavorable weather in the weekend forecast, the Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team headed up to Denver to faceoff with #12 ranked Regis Rangers to open the 2021 season.

Regis took 27 shots, to the Mavericks 13 – 20 of which were on goal for a .741 shot-on-goal percentage. The Rangers scored three of their goals on free position, out of six attempts. The Maverick defense caused 13 turnovers, along with five draw controls. CMU also managed to clear 13-of-17 opportunities, for a .765 percentage to open the season.

The Rangers scored their first two goals within the same minute, and continued net eight unanswered goals before Lauren Wick put the Mavericks on the board nearing the end of the first half.

Kenzie Blackwell took two shots on goal, and one of them found the back of the net on a free position around the 10-minute mark in the second half. Blackwell's goal would be the second and last goal for the Mavericks on the day, falling 14-2 to a tough Ranger squad.

Colorado Mesa will head to Colorado Springs, tomorrow (Mar. 12) to tangle with the Tigers of Colorado College at Washburn Field.
